2021 Charter Day Recap


On Saturday, March 6th, Howard University's 154th anniversary was celebrated with Cedric the Entertainer as master of ceremonies of a virtual event. The virtual event boasted a line-up of exciting entertainment, including Matt the Violinist and Step Afrika!, the award-winning company founded by Howard’s own C. Brian Williams.  


The convocation speech was streamed on Friday, March 5th. President Wayne A.I. Frederick served as the convocation speaker. 

Each year, the Charter Day Convocation ceremony commemorates the signing of the federal charter on March 2, 1867 establishing Howard as a university. Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick served as keynote speaker for the 2021 Charter Day Convocation on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. Dr. Frederick holds three academic degrees from Howard University and exemplifies the institutional motto of truth and service. At the 2021 ceremony, Dr. Frederick spoke about the challenges, and signs of hope, related to the coronavirus pandemic.
