Thanksgiving 2023 Operational Update

Closure Requirements

• Unless designated as an essential employee, employees are not expected to travel to Howard University to work.
• All buildings will be secured and locked. Essential employees needing building access must check in with the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
• All usual custodial and food services will be suspended.

Essential Operations

• There will be no shuttle service on Thursday and Friday. Shuttle services will resume on Monday, November 27.
• The Bison One Card Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Please contact onecard@howard.edu for any urgent matters.
• The University bookstore will be closed from Thursday, November 23 through Sunday, November 26. Normal hours will resume on Monday, November 27.
• Graphics & Printing will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
• Mail services will be suspended for the federal holiday and will resume operations when the campus reopens.
• HU Dining services operating hours are available here for all campus restaurants, dining halls, cafes, and convenience stores.
  • Bethune Annex, Blackburn Café, Bison Brew, Jazzman’s, The Market at the Towers, and the Market at Bethune will be closed from Thursday through Sunday.
  • Simply to Go, Punch Out, and Nu Vegan will be closed from Wednesday through Sunday.
• DPS will provide continuous safety and security coverage and building access to permitted employees during the holiday break.
• Physical Facilities Management maintenance and services will continue to respond to urgent situations and emergencies.
• The UGL Lab and iLab will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday beginning at noon on Wednesday, November 22 - Sunday, November 26. The UGL Lab and iLab will reopen on Monday, November 27, resuming regular hours of operation. ETS personnel will be on standby for emergency IT-related issues. 
• Howard University Hospital will remain open.
• The Faculty Practice Plan will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24. Service will resume on Monday, November 27.
• Residence Life will operate on a normal schedule.
• WHUR-FM and WHUT-TV will continue their regular programming schedules.

Library Operations

Founders Library, Frederick Undergraduate Library (UGL), Vernon E. Jordan Law Library and Health Sciences Library

• Wednesday, November 22, will operate from the hours of  8:00 am - 12:00 noon.
• Thursday, November 23, will be closed, and resume normal business hours Monday, November 27.
