Tuesday, October 3

10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Paint the Campus Purple

Location: The Yard

The IVPP office and its volunteers will canvas The Yard and other parts of campus passing out buttons, ribbons, stickers, etc., to put the campus on notice that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). The goal is to make the community aware that Howard University recognizes the impact of Dating and Domestic Violence, and we have prevention, intervention and postvention supports for all students that have experiences with these issues.

 

Thursdays, October 6, 13 & 27

12:00 - 2:00 pm

DVAM Awareness Table

Location: Blackburn

The IVPP office will set up an awareness table in Blackburn every Thursday in October to distribute purple paraphernalia, information about on/off campus resources, as well as white ribbons to symbolize that they will not commit, condone, or remain silent about abuse. The campus will have the opportunity to take the HU Stands Pledge and learn more about eradication of campus intimate violence

 

Tuesday, October 11

National Inviting In Day Brunch

Location: LGBTQ+ Resource Center

In partnership with the LGBTQ+ Resource Center within the Office of Intercultural Affairs, Student Health Center, and University Counseling Service, we invite all students, staff, and faculty to join us for brunch. During this brunch event we will share information about resources available to students, provide support/encouragement to anyone that may be hesitant to “come out,” and provide a safe space for our LGBTQ+ students to socialize freely.

IVPP Lunch & Learn for Staff & Faculty

Location: MS Teams (virtual)

The IVPP office will meet with faculty and staff interested in learning more about domestic violence, bystander intervention, and available resources.

 

Monday, October 17th & Wednesday, October 19th

8:30 - 9:30 am

Paint the (Off) Campus Purple

Locations: WISH on 10/17 & MGM on 10/19

IVPP will sponsor morning activations of paint the campus purple at the off-campus residence halls. Residents will have access to buttons, ribbons, stickers, etc. to put the campus on notice that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)

 

Monday, October 17th & Wednesday, October 19th

IVPP Lunch & Learns for RA’s GA’s and Students

Location: MS Teams (Virtual)

IVPP will host a lunch for available RA’s, GA’s and Junior RA’s and other students interested in revisiting training concepts around consent, crisis response after interpersonal violence events, bystander intervention and other topics. This is an in-person event and we will serve lunc

Purple Thursday

Everyone is encouraged to wear something purple on this day to honor victims and support survivors of domestic violence.

Clothesline Project

Location: TBD

In partnership the University Counseling Service and the Student Health Center, we invite all students, staff, and faculty to join us and design a shirt to show support for survivors of domestic violence.
