Dear Howard University Community,
On December 18, 2021, the University published new protocols on vaccination status and attestation for the return of employees and students to campus following the Winter Break. We are writing to remind you of the new guidance and to request that employees upload proof of your booster shot and negative PCR test to Workday prior to returning to work. Students, who are not employed by the University should follow instructions that are included in the Med Proctor portal.
All faculty, staff and students will be required to receive a COVID-19 booster by Monday, January 31, 2022, if you are already eligible for a booster, or within 30 days after becoming eligible. Approved medical and religious exemptions will continue to be granted. Booster vaccines are available on campus on the first floor of the Howard University Hospital, Freedmen’s Hall, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
How to Upload Vaccination Documentation
All employees are required to receive a negative PCR COVID-19 test result and to provide proof of an approved vaccine booster shot prior to presenting to work. This step-by-step guide details the process for uploading vaccination documentation.
- Save an image of the updated vaccination card or verification document on your computer prior to uploading the files to the portal. Name this file “Covid Booster *VACCINATION BRAND - *LAST NAME.”
- On the desktop version of Workday, click the “COVID vaccination card upload” icon.
- Click the “maintain my worker documents” hyperlink and follow the instructions to add your COVID-19 vaccination card. The front and back of the card must be uploaded for a submission to be complete.

COVID-19 Policy and Compliance
Please familiarize yourself with the University’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements and verification policy. Employees who are noncompliant with the University’s policy after the January 31 deadline will face progressive discipline that is described in full here.
Noncompliance is defined as any behavior that fails to comply with the University’s COVID-related health and safety requirements for the workplace (i.e., vaccination, masking, Bison Safe self-assessment and testing), which, if continued, could undermine the University’s ability to safeguard the health and safety of the University community.
Exemption and Waiver Information
Medical and religious exemptions from vaccination will be granted in accordance with federal and local law. Employees must request an exemption by completing the COVID-19 vaccination exemption request form.
