All major University gatherings have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Event Management

  • Effective March 1, 2022, the District of Columbia government lifted restrictions on capacity limits for group gatherings and events. However, the University will continue to maintain some requirements for campus-wide indoor and outdoor gatherings. Approved occupancy will depend on the venue’s capacity with required protocols.
  • Will allow in-person group events, gatherings, or meetings, and promote social distancing of at least 3 feet between people and required masks. However, virtual experiences will be encouraged.
  • In-door recreation areas and theater venues, including Cramton Auditorium, will be open with a seating capacity that follows the University’s indoor guidelines, maintaining social distancing and mask requirements. Chapel services will continue virtually until further notice.
  • Outdoor group gatherings larger than 100 individuals require approval through University protocols.  Mask usage is required, as well as three-foot social distancing, where feasible.

Intercollegiate Athletics

The Department of Athletics is working closely with the DC Consortium on Athletics and the MEAC conference on the guidelines for athletic participation this Springl. We anticipate all 21 intercollegiate teams will return to full training and competition.  Student Athletes will be required to wear masks as appropriate. Student athletes will be tested once per week (PCR) as required by the University and the MEAC conference.

Athletic events are open to the general public subject to Howard University COVID 19 protocols with regard to mask wearing and social distancing. Howard students must present their Bison Safe App for admission to all outdoor and indoor events.
